Damaged NP205 bracketry / polished rods

I finally got a little work done towards the Travelette last night.

I "roughed" 6 of the 8 connecting rods with my flap-wheel, which are now ready for the die-grinder and cartridge roll to finish the polishing. One rod is done, and one still needs the piston pin pressed out.

Then I looked at the Np205 mounting brackets from the parts 200 to see what needs done. They're cracked, of course.

Motor Test, Winter Baja

SUCCESS! 3rd over-all

We started Saturday, 2/8 with some poor weather. My '74 200 2wd Travelette was having a hard time of it around town with 2wd and pulling the loaded car trailer, but we still managed to pick up Mark Korsten and meet the Comers for breakfast.

It's A-Live!!! 304C is Running

Saturday, 1/18/03, I spent some time finishing up loose ends. Late in the afternoon, I was finally ready to fire up the rebuilt 304C.

No go. Corroded terminals didn't give enough juice to keep the ignition firing.

After some re-wiring and some adjustments to the timing.. it roared back to life, and sprayed coolant all over me.. :D

I did get the motor up to 2000rpm for 20 minutes as part of the re-break in.

Rebuilt 304C installed

Well, it's physically IN the Scout now..

As of 12:30am 1/14/03. I finally finished up the engine re-assembly, installed the rear main seal, oil pressure sending unit, thermostat housing, etc. and put it back into the engine bay.

Took a little jockeying to get everything to line up, but eventually it cooperated.

Now I just need to get the various add-ons hooked back up - coil, alt, power steering, fan, radiator, distributor, and install the new plug wires and 4bbl.. then put some spark to it!

Should make some "prep" progress tonight.. and I'm hoping to fire it by Saturday.

That'll leave 2 weeks before Winter Baja for various other pre-race prep.

Things like checking the oil and brakes, cleaning this and that out, making sure the lights work, etc.

Also need to wire the heater blower on the Travelette.. and soon the trailer wheel bearings need repacked..

"The Big Stuck"

1-10-97

Well, it finally happened.. I got myself really stuck. It all started when a group of punk high schoolers cut in front of me in a newly purchased smoke-grey '87 Honda Civic. I (naturally) laid on the horn and flashed my lights at 'em. Then, as I passed them, my gf' was bold enough to show them one of her slender fingers...
