I finally decided that my long-travel Tom Wood's driveshaft wasn't going to cut it after breaking yet another transfercase.. so I ponied up the money for a longer Tom Wood's long-travel driveshaft.. 14" of slip..
..and installed before Winter Baja. Had to take a test drive around my field, first, of course. :D
With the Scout patched up, I headed up to the Cascade Winter Baja, along with fellow Scout-racer David Nuenke from Rapid City, South Dakota.
David had a pretty good day, but mine didn't go as planned. Devil decided to bauble right at the start of the race, and then refused to start - the battery didn't want to spin things over.
After some friends came to my aid with a jump pack and some gasoline down the carb, I was off and running again... a little irritated at the delayed start to my race, and determined to make up for lost time.
So, of course, I slammed a jump a wee bit too hard.. knocking the gas around in the carb and making it stall again - which required another gasoline treatment to the carb and a jump box... while also bending the draglink. :(
That race was over before I even started.
I did get it to cooperate enough to make a second run in a higher class, and managed to stick with the lead lap until I exploded one of my front tires after landing a jump.
Still, it was a fun enough time. :)
