(Updated 9/14)
Back in February, while at the Mountaineer Ice Race event in Bozeman, I developed some transmission problems - it was slipping badly, and I lost 3rd and most of reverse.
I proceeded to race it again over Memorial Day without 3rd gear, which wasn't very fun.
John Comer of Gryphin Racing took my old race tranny back to Denver after Memorial Day and rebiult it, but couldn't get it shipped north in time, so I picked it up while at RMIHR in July.
With the transmission home, I just needed to drop the burnt 727 and toss the new one in.. but I was still getting my shop ready, and moving my tools and equipment, and poor Little Devil took a backseat. With racing season nearly over, it's September, and I finally have an opportunity to make some repairs.
I started by washing the whole muddy thing. :D
Over Labor Day weekend I drained the Dana 20 and removed it, while still in the driveway, before using Tigger to push Devil inside on Labor Day.
As it sits this morning (9/7), Devil is up on jack stands..
I needed to jack the Scout up high enough to get my transmission jack under it, and roll the 727 out from under the Scout while still on the jack.
Note the cheap-trick rear jackstands that look deceptively like the front tires..
I also noticed one of the balljoints needs tightened up up front, and I have a new Parts Mike steering arm spacer and stud kit I need to install while I'm at it, too.
The transmission fluid that drained out smelled bad, and looked worse.
Draining the transmission was about the extent of it thus far. Labor Day activities took priority to wrenching - I almost finished my horseshoe pits. :D
There are mud-drags in Bozeman this weekend I'd like to try and make it to, as well as a race at the CORR track in Acton (Billings) at the end of the month..
I did snap a picture of the rear shock setup, just for those that wondered..

Update 9/8
Got the tranny out on 9/7, got the new one in on 9/8.
New converter, flushed the cooler, hooked up the shifter cable, hooked up the cooler lines, bolted it all in, bolted in the Dana 20, even put a shifter on the t'case while I was at it.
Also tightened up a sloppy driver's front balljoint, installed some shock mounting studs for the bottom of the rear shocks. Filled the Dana 20 with some SAE 50.
Still need to put the new throttle cable in, change the oil, fill the trans, put the tunnel cover back on.
I'd like to get the high-steer arm spacing installed, new draglink installed, and see about putting new taillights in.
Also need to weld up this:
Passenger front body mount is tearing the frame. Must be the repeated poundings from jumping. :D

While I was working on the Scout, I decided to get the steering arm spacer installed from Parts Mike.
Here's 'Devil all ready to go..
..and here's the mess left in my shop when I was done!
..and at the race, ready to go:
and goin'..
