8/30/2009 - Another IH Win in Acton, MT

Finally put my gooseneck to use and hauled the family (plus one former Scout racer) to Acton, MT for some racing.

Other than last weekend's Monster Truck show (a 1st place finish), the last time I raced was in Acton a year ago in the stock class (also a 1st place finish). This time, I had to run "modified" class... and it's time to retire, since that's at least three 1st place finishes in a row. For years I was happy just to finish a race - let alone finish three in a row, or even win one.

Race was 20-25 miles. The Scout did better as the track dried out and got tacky - a few corners were a bit too slimy at the beginning.

High-zoot valve springs the machine shop sold me are only good to 5000rpm or so - I need to go back to the LS6 stuff. Tranny didn't want to take 3rd very often. Either low on fluid (seemed full) or the kickdown (zip-tied) needs adjusted (backed off).

Shifter tunnel cover came loose and had to be repaired so the ratchet shifter would ratchet.

I think I nearly ran out of gas during the race (and did run out of gas on the tow home).

It was 230F-ish when it was all over.

I need to order more tear-offs.

6 Modified trucks started (along with about the same number of "stock" trucks).

The Powell race in October was canceled, since there's a 100 mile race on October 10th in Columbus, MT... I wonder if I can get Little Devil to hold together long enough to make 100 miles, when I should be working on the new chassis..

What the heck.. "One more race" I guess.. :grinpimp:

Thanks for the well-wishes, guys.

The onesy was made for my first daughter (now 3) by a friend of ours - we have onesies, t-shirts, hoodies and more. :D

I believe my two daughters (7mo & 3yr) will have an updated wardrobe in two weeks when we visit Havre again.

Mark Ashford even has a couple that we sent over to Washington.

Few more pictures from earlier in the day (from the first 4GB card..)

Hot-laps (with a relatively clean Scout)

Lining up - the competition

Hooked the RF tire a little too much in the mud - there goes another tear-off

Gaining on one of the slower trucks (stock class left 20 seconds before mods)
