First off, a Scout won the Sportsman Class Baja. It wasn't me, though.. I only managed second.. the win was mine, but I took myself out of the running when I was up 2 or 3 laps on the competition with 8 minutes to go, and decided it was time to try a barrel-roll.
Pictures and Video
I was sliding the turn like I'd done so many times earlier in the day when I hit a berm or a badger hole that grabbed the right side of the Scout and held on.. and momentum mandated that the driver's side had to come up n' over as a result.. making 3/4th of a revolution before landing on the driver's side.
Not bad, considering I only had 1st gear - I was planning to do some valvebody work between now and 2 weeks from now's race to get 2nd/3rd and more speed.. but it looks like ~40mph was fast enough for 2nd and fast enough to get into trouble.
In-car camera survived, but unfortunately worked only as well as it did when I started - no video at all, but I do have audio of the incident.
Also go the whole thing on tape from outside the vehicle, but I'll need a few days before I can get it all captured and edited..
So.. anyone want to sponsor another SSII grille? I was going to replace the radiator anyhow (it was leaking) and I have another front clip set aside for just such an occasion..
As of 2/11, I've removed the mangled front clip and tossed it aside, and the radiator has been removed and the 3-row donated by Darel has been cleaned, tested, patched, and is ready to go.
I also bought a stick of 2x.095 tubing and have made my first bend with my JD2 tubing bender. Sunday I hope to make some progress getting it back together..
